DCC Sound Overview
Sound adds a new dimension to your layout. For steam locos; as well as the obvious chuffing sounds there are the brakes, whistles, injectors, safety valves, buffer clashes, coupling noises, guard’s whistle, flange squeal and various other sounds, some going off randomly with others directly under your control.
As well as the engine sounds, diesel locos have the start up and shut down sequences and the various fan and pump sounds.
We were surprised at how good a sound fitted electric loco is. They are noisier than you think.
An important aspect of a sound installation is the speaker installation. It is important that it has a good sealed enclosure to give a good bass sound. For some locos with a lot of bass in the sounds it is worth installing a bass enhanced speaker at a small extra charge.
